Frequently asked questions
General Overview
Handguns are fine, but many attacks involve assault weapons. What happens then?
The protective layer integrated into our bags is the strongest that can be realistically carried for day-to-day use, and it covers many real-world scenarios. Keep in mind that even when fired from a rifle, a bullet’s ultimate penetration relies on distance and angle, as well as other materials (doors, desks, drywall) it may have to pass through, slowing it. So while nothing but a heavy ceramic plate will stop a point-blank assault rifle shot, this is only one scenario -- and ArmorMe provides a solution to many, many others.
I’ve seen a number of similar backpacks on the market. What makes ArmorMe different?
Attacks can happen just seconds - will my daughter have time to get her backpack and protect herself with it?
We encourage customers to practice scenarios at home so the actions of locating and utilizing the bag become second nature. Many attacks do have some level of warning, whether it be gunshots coming from another location, the sound of panic, or even seeing the assailant approaching. In many news stories reporting on school shootings, students and teachers hid in their locations until help arrived. Doing so with a layer of strong protection provides much, much, better chance of survival. In the event that an individual chooses to run for the purposes of escape, this extra protection increases the likelihood of success as well.
Specifications
How heavy is it? Do I really want to carry around a few extra pounds even in an “empty” backpack?
A regular, non-protective backpack weighs roughly 1.2 to 1.8 pounds. An ArmorMe backpack with one plate to protect the front will add a little more than 1.5 pounds (for a total of 2.5), and two plates, for front and back use, adds about 3 pounds. Every similar bag on the market that uses the thickness and quality of bullet-resistant material required for adequate protection comes with this weight addition. There is no way around it -- police and military personnel can tell you that it is the decision that you make for safety. Sure, it takes some getting used to, but especially in the digital age where textbooks are becoming less of a contribution to weight, this defensive layer replaces it.

ArmorMe Bags are available for purchase either at our Amazon shop or directly through our webshop under Shop.
Where do you ship to?
Why does the ArmorMe backpack cost so much?
Giving the right amount of protection necessary to be effective requires high quality materials which, unfortunately, come at proportional monetary cost. We feel that using lower quality components in order to create an “economy” version would reduce the effectiveness and not give each child the proper protection.
Safety & Certification
Is ArmorMe safe?
ArmorMe bags are meant to keep you safe during specific scenarios, such as knife and handgun attacks. The bullet-resistant panels in our bags is the strongest that realistically can be carried for day-to-day use. While nothing but a ceramic plate will protect you from a point-blank bullet from a heavy rifle, ArmorMe provides safety during many other types of violent attacks.
